If the survey is not configured for data collection through RebusCloud, users can directly upload the data file which contains data collected from any external medium. The data file can be either in CSV or SPSS format and analysis can be carried out on that uploaded data.
But before you do that, there are a few more things you need to take care of. First, you need to create the survey in the system. Ensure that all the questions which are required for analysis are added in the survey. Here, you do not need to add any logic. The second step is Mapping. Mapping is done to map the headers of the data file with the survey questions as created in the first step.
Mapping Single Choice Questions
Question mapping is done from the Analysis tab of the Design Page. Click on Analysis for a Single choice question in your designed questionnaire.
The analysis tab will automatically calculate the Code, Analysis Label, Option label and Factor fields for the question.
The next step is to map the question. In the Question field present at top right of the Analysis tab, enter the Question name present in the data file.
Once you enter the name, it will automatically update the name in the Mapped Variable field. You can change the name only from the Question field, as the Mapped Variable field is un-editable.
In case your options have different codes in the data file other than the ones given in the Code column, define the codes given in the data file for each option in the Mapped Option Code column.
This completes the mapping of your single choice question.
Mapping Multi Choice Questions
To map your multi-choice question, Click on Analysis for your created multi-choice question in your designed questionnaire.
The analysis tab will automatically calculate the Code, Analysis Label, Option label and Factor fields for the question.
To map the question to external data file, first check the format of how the data for the multi-choice question has been captured.
Multi-choice variable are generally reported in the formats Question@option# and Question_options#. Where Question is the question number, @/# is the separator and option# is the range of options.
Enter the Question number and separator as given in the data file and click on Item.
A pop-up will appear asking whether the data format or response type for multi-choice questions is Dichotomies or Categorical.
Dichotomies are the type of format in which the data is stored in the format of Yes/No or 1/0 respectively. In case your data is stored in the form of dichotomies, enter the counted value(code/label for positive response) in the given field.
After choosing the required response type as Dichotomies, click on Next.
You will be displayed all the items for the multi-choice question. Insert the item code/label present after the delimiter/separator for each item.
Click on Done.
Categorical format stores data in the form of code assigned to the respective item/option of the multi-choice question.
If your data is in categorical format, select response type as Categorical and click on Next.
A pop-up will appear where you can add as many columns as present in your data file for each option by clicking on “+” sign. Enter the respective item code in your each added column.
Click on Mapped variable to view all the mapped variables.
A pop-up will appear displaying your mapped variables.
In case your options have different codes in the data file other than the one’s given in the Code column, define the codes given in the data file for each option in the Mapped Option Code column.
Mapping Simple Grid Questions
To map your Simple grid question, Click on Analysis for your created simple grid question in your designed questionnaire.
The analysis tab will contain individual boxes for each attribute present in the grid and will automatically calculate the Code, Analysis Label, Option label and Factor fields for each attribute.
To map your simple grid, enter the question name and assign the separator as given in the data file and click on Attribute.
A pop-up will appear. Define the attribute as given in the data file and click on Done.
Now specify another separator between your Attribute and Item as given in your data file and Click on Item.
A pop-up will appear asking whether the data format or response type for multi-choice questions is Dichotomies or Categorical.
Dichotomies are the type of format in which the data is stored in the format of Yes/No or 1/0 respectively. In case your data is stored in form of dichotomies, enter the Counted value(code/label for positive response) in the given field.
After choosing the required response type as Dichotomies, click on Next.
You will be displayed all the items for the grid question.
Mapping Complex Grid questions
To map your complex grid questions, Click on Analysis for your created complex grid question in your designed questionnaire.
The analysis tab will contain individual boxes for each attribute and group present in the grid and will automatically calculate the Code, Analysis Label, Option label and Factor fields for each attribute.
To start your mapping, enter Question number/text, then enter separator as given in your data file and click on Group.
A pop-up will appear displaying all the groups in your complex grid. For each of your groups, enter the text/number assigned to them as in your data file.
If your Complex grid is multi choice, click on Item scaled for specifying whether the response type is Dichotomies or Categorical. The process remains same as that in multi-choice questions.
Click on Done.
Now enter the delimiter/separator between your group and Attribute as given in the column name of your data file and click on Attribute.
A pop-up will appear displaying all your attributes for your complex grid. Define values/names to your attributes as given in data file and click on Done.
Your attributes will get defines and the box will be highlighted in blue.
Now specify the delimiter between your Attribute and Item.
The Item box will be un-clickable as the items will already be specified while you configure your groups and assign response type to your items.
Your Complex grid question will now be completely mapped and you can view your mapped variables by click on Mapped Variable options.
A pop-up will appear that will display all your mapped variables. This applies to all the respective mapped variable columns displayed in Analysis tab.
PN: The mapping procedure remains same for Slider Type questions as that of complex grid questions. Only the Questions, Groups and Attributes are required to be defined.
Mapping Text type and Numeric Type questions
For text type and Numeric type question, simply enter question name in the Question field present at the top right of the analysis tab as given in the data file.
The question will get mapped to the one in Data file and the Mapped variable will automatically show the mapped variable.
Mapping Rank type and Slider Type questions
Users can map their Rank type and slider type questions by simply mentioning the Question and defining Attributes in the Analysis tab.
Enter Question number, define delimiter and click on Attribute.
A pop-up will appear. Define your attributes as given in the column name format of your data file and click on Done.
Your question will get mapped and the mapped variables will be visible when you click on Mapped Variable.
